This is the #1 cause of “plugin won’t connect” errors. Do it first, before anything else.
Cowork sandboxes outbound network calls to a small allowlist. Until your WordPress domain is on that list, every call from the WordPress for Cowork plugin returns blocked-by-allowlist and Claude tells you it can’t reach your site.
Steps
- Open Claude Desktop on your computer.
- Click Settings → Cowork → Network → Allowed Domains.
- Add your WordPress site’s domain. Just the domain — no
https://, no path, no trailing slash. Example:yourdomain.com. - Fully close and reopen Claude Desktop. The allowlist is cached at session start, so changes don’t take effect mid-session. Quitting from the menu bar / system tray is not enough on some systems — if a restart of Claude Desktop doesn’t help, reboot.
Multiple sites?
Add each WordPress domain you want to manage from Cowork. There’s no per-domain charge — the allowlist is just network plumbing on the Cowork side.
How to confirm it worked
After restarting Claude Desktop, run /wp-status in Cowork. If it returns “Connected as <your-username>”, the allowlist is set correctly. If it still says blocked-by-allowlist, you missed the restart.
